The Baltic Exchange and Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers present the second series of lectures in Shanghai, Singapore, Athens and London; intended to support and develop those working in the shipping industry.

The series will examine topical issues facing those working in these roles, offering advice on best practice in critical situations and insight into the changing patterns affecting sectors within shipping.Taking place near the end of every other month and including lunch/cocktails & refreshements where applicable, the lectures are free to all those that are Baltic or ICS Members.

This initiative is aimed at supporting those developing their careers in shipping and encouraging betteradvocacy across the future generation of industry leaders.


Looking into the outcome of the IMO's Summer discussionsand industry reaction to the 2020 cap, our speakers will giveattendees a look at the real figures surrounding these incomingchanges as well as the effect that has so far played-out in ourindustry. Looking further into what may come, attendees will beable to hear from the industry-centred experts on the choicesavailable to principals and how owner Compliance may impactthe charterer's decision making.

Dr. John Kokarakis, Technical Director, Bureau Veritas, Greece

Dr. Kokarakis has extensive experience in ship design and operations, spanning over forty years. He was a consultant of SEALAND, AMERICAN PRESIDENT LINES and Matson Navigation for numerous aspects of containership design, operation and repair. He has performed technical investigations of various notorious accidents worldwide including EXXON VALDEZ, Piper Alpha, Drillship SEACREST, Space Shuttle CHALLENGER etc.
Currently, he is responsible for the technical business development in the Hellenic, Black Sea, Balkan & Ukraine Zone at Bureau Veritas. His work focuses on the implementation of the “green” regulations with specialization in fuel saving techniques, slow steaming, speed optimization, hydrodynamic optimization, resistance and propulsion and performance monitoring. He is a member of the International Association of Classification Societies Environmental Panel as well as the Chairman of the Greek Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.
A graduate of National Technical University of Athens, John also earned a doctorate and MSEs in Naval Architecture and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
